To increase Congressional awareness of how dangerous taxpayer-funded animal experiments may have contributed to the Covid-19 pandemic, on Monday, November 8, White Coat Waste Project was proud to host What Really Happened in Wuhan, a congressional staff briefing featuring investigative journalist Sharri Markson and Congresswoman Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-WA), Ranking Member of the House Energy and Commerce Committee.

What Really Happened in Wuhan explored the ‘lab-leak hypothesis’ of Covid-19’s origins. Following opening remarks by WCW VP Justin Goodman, Ms. Markson — whose new book “What Really Happened in Wuhan” inspired the event — spoke about her research into the origins of the virus, documenting China’s extensive efforts to hide information about the virus, and its severity, from the rest of the world. Her compelling research included details about experimenters at the Wuhan animal lab falling ill with Covid-like symptoms long before there was any reporting on the new disease, making the “official” timeline promulgated by China and the WHO extremely dubious.

Additionally, Ms. Markson discussed the NIH’s role in funding dangerous animal experiments, including grants to notorious non-profit EcoHealth Alliance, which subcontracted its risky coronavirus experiments to the Wuhan lab, details of which were first uncovered by WCW. Her presentation discussed EHA’s habitual pattern of dishonesty, including saying that there were no bats in the Wuhan lab, which was conclusively disproved by video evidence she obtained. Finally, Ms. Markson discussed how investigations into the origins of Covid-19 have been hindered by conflicts of interest, while exploring what Congress can do to break the logjam, and to ensure that a pandemic like this will not happen again.

Congresswoman McMorris Rodgers discussed her committee’s laudable work to investigate the origins of Covid and hold NIH and EcoHealth accountable for funding dangerous experiments and stonewalling Congress. She also discussed documents (obtained by WCW) revealing that NIH staffers raised concerns about the dangers of EHA’s proposed coronavirus experimentation in Wuhan — then allowed it to continue anyway. Finally, Rep. McMorris Rodgers discussed what steps Congress can take in order to obtain the information it needs for inquiries and oversight.

What Really Happened in Wuhan is WCW’s second congressional briefing on Covid’s origins, following a highly successful“Lab Leak” briefing in May 2021.
