  • Following a recent White Coat Waste Project (WCW) investigation, a WCW-led coalition of 11 organizations is urging Congress to cut USDA funding to animal labs in China and other hostile nations in the forthcoming farm bill
  • WCW recently exposed how the USDA has wasted $1 million to collaborate on dangerous bird flu gain-of-function experiments with a Wuhan animal lab white coat tied to the Chinese government
  • WCW previously uncovered USDA wasteful spending for deadly brain experiments on foxes at a Russian fur farm and for dog and cat meat purchases at Chinese wet markets

Last month, a White Coat Waste Project investigation exposed how the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has wasted at least $1 million of taxpayers’ money on an ongoing collaboration with the Chinese Communist Party-controlled Chinese Academy of Sciences (the Wuhan animal lab’s parent organization) and a Wuhan lab white coat on dangerous bird flu gain-of-function experiments.

But wait…there’s more. We previously uncovered reckless USDA spending for deadly brain experiments on foxes at a Kremlin-linked fur farm and for dog and cat meat purchases at Chinese wet markets.

Now, in a letter to Congressional Agriculture Committee leaders U.S. Representatives GT Thompson (R-PA) and David Scott (D-GA) and Senators Debbie Stabenow (D-MI) and John Boozman (R-AR), a WCW-led coalition is calling for all USDA funding to be cut for animal labs in China, Russia and other adversarial nations in the forthcoming farm bill “as a significant way to protect national security, animal and human health, and taxpayer dollars.” The farm bill is passed by Congress every five years to set agricultural policies and priorities.

The letter explains, “Especially after China’s reckless gain-of-function animal research that experts believe caused COVID and its refusal to share key data and cooperate with investigations, Congress should ensure that no more tax dollars are funneled to foreign adversaries’ animal labs for risky research.”

WCW is proud to be joined in this vital effort to protect animals, taxpayers, and national security by our friends at Taxpayers Protection Alliance, FreedomWorks, Free The People, The Atlas Society, Young Americans for Liberty, The James Madison Institute, Republican Liberty Caucus, and Advancing Law for Animals, as well as by Knox County, Tennessee Mayor Glenn Jacobs and WCW adviser and Heritage Foundation expert Dr. David Gortler.

Polls show that 71% of taxpayers across the country—Democrats, Republicans, and Independents alike—want Congress to defund torturous and wasteful foreign adversaries’ animal labs.

You can make your voice heard by urging Congress to pass the Accountability in Foreign Animal Research (AFAR) Act to defund enemies’ animal labs!
