This New Bill Would DEFUND the Wuhan Animal Lab FOREVER

14 February 2023 | Blog

Since early 2020, when we first exposed and cut taxpayer funding for dangerous coronavirus experiments on bats and mice at the Wuhan Institute of Virology (WIV), we’ve been working with Congress to defund the reckless lab (which likely caused the pandemic, and tortures beagles, monkeys, and lots of other animals).

Even the National Institutes of Health’s (NIH) own internal watchdog has finally recommended that the Wuhan lab be permanently barred from receiving taxpayer funds, too.  Better late than never! Its recent scathing report documented how the NIH grossly mismanaged its grant to the Wuhan lab and how the CCP-run facility has refused to cooperate with U.S. investigations into its animal experiments that probably sparked COVID.

This is an actual photo from inside the Wuhan Animal Lab.

Fortunately, waste warriors Sen. Joni Ernst (R-IA) and Rep. Scott Perry (R-PA) aren’t waiting around for entrenched bureaucrats at the NIH to take action. The two have just re-introduced the Defund the Wuhan Institute of Virology Act to finally shut off the spigot once and for all.

Defund Wuhan Animal Lab

Meet Shi Zhingli, a.k.a. “Bat Woman.” She’s a top animal experimenter at the Wuhan Animal Lab.

This deserves a round of applause! Let’s recap some of the Wuhan lab’s greatest hits:

  • Working with EcoHealth Alliance and NIH to violate a U.S. ban on funding risky gain-of-function experiments
  • Collecting coronaviruses from wild bats and intentionally supercharging them in the lab to be up to 10,000 times more virulent
  • Infecting “humanized” mice with engineered coronaviruses in painful, deadly, and wasteful experiments and covering up mouse deaths
  • Deleting its public database of coronaviruses created and held at the lab
  • Having an NIH grant officially revoked for refusing to turn over records about its U.S. taxpayer-funded animal experiments

Despite all of this waste and abuse, a loophole discovered by WCW has allowed the Wuhan lab to remain eligible for more taxpayer dollars from the NIH, specifically for animal experiments!

In 2021, the Senate voted unanimously to defund the Wuhan lab, and the House advanced WCW-backed legislation last year to do the same. Though neither measure made it to the president’s desk, we helped get other legislation signed into law to crack down on reckless spending at WIV and other foreign animal labs.

We’re proud of our progress to date and are thrilled to back this new legislation that would ensure that no tax dollars are ever shipped to the Wuhan animal lab ever again!
